January Art Walk at Acadiana Center for the Arts - 12/29/2006
Bones Come Home grand opening along with the PACE art exhibit, Jam des Amis, and Louisiana Crafts Guild
Lafayette, LA – The Acadiana Center for the Arts is the place to be for the first 2nd Saturday ArtWalk of 2007.
Bryan Lafaye and Elemore Morgan, Jr., two artists who have never before exhibited together in Lafayette, will open their exhibition, Bones Come Home at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The Main Gallery space will host a brand new collection of artwork by Lafaye, as well as extraordinarily large works from Morgan. As a rare treat, the Small Gallery will present a collage of drawings and sketches from the artists, as well as a selection of their finished work.
The PACE Art Exhibit continues at Acadiana Center for the Arts through January’s ArtWalk. The students, teachers and teaching artists of the PACE program welcome guests to view the annual exhibit of their best work of the Fall 2006 school session. Over 200 classes participate in the arts integration activities using a wide variety of media, so there is plenty to see! The purpose of PACE is to assist schools in establishing an environment rich in the arts. Through the collaborative efforts of artists, educators and the community, this program provides artists’ residencies in twenty elementary schools for grades preK-3 in Lafayette parish. The exhibit is being held in the Art House, as well as the Circle Gallery.
The Louisiana Crafts Guild introduces new work by Jennifer Lacour, a 3-d mixed media artist and instructor. Her exhibit, From the King’s Chambers is being held in the Vault, and features extravagant ceremonial vessels reminiscent of ancient royalty. Lacour’s highly embellished works in clay and mixed media are characterized by dramatic shapes, intense colors, rich surfaces, mysterious engravings, and striking embellishments of gemstones and beadwork. These breathtaking designs are masterfully executed with superior craftsmanship, exceptional technical skill, and meticulous attention to detail.
Louisiana Folk Roots presents the January Jam des Amis led by John Buckelew, a fiddler and vocalist of the unique and exciting Nouveau String Band. The jam session is open to all musicians and music lovers alike, and will take place in the Art House from 6–8 pm. For more information, contact Louisiana Folk Roots at 337.234.8360, email info@lafolkroots.org, or visit www.lafolkroots.org. LFR’s programs are funded through grants from LEH, LDA, ACA, ConocoPhillips, and through public support.
Free ArtWalk admission is generously sponsored by Acadiana Computer Systems, Inc., Voorhies & Labbé, Café des Amis, and à la Carte. Special thanks to our 2007 exhibition series sponsors: LCVC, DDA, Dr. F. Jay Culotta, and the Independent Weekly.
