Acadiana Center for the Arts Announces a New Exhibit Opening January 13, 2007 - 12/29/2006
Showing in AcA’s Main and Small Galleries, January 13 – February 25, 2007
The Acadiana Center for the Arts in downtown Lafayette is excited to announce the opening of Bones Come Home, an exhibit by Bryan Lafaye and Elemore Morgan, Jr. The two artists have never before exhibited together in Lafayette.
The Main Gallery space will host a brand new collection of artwork by Lafaye, as well as extraordinarily large works from Morgan. As a rare treat, the Small Gallery will present a collage of drawings and sketches from the artists, as well as a selection of their finished work.
Bryan Lafaye is the former Director of the University Museum at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, LA. He currently exhibits with Debris Art Gallery in Dallas, TX, Grand Contemporary in Lafayette, LA and Handsel Gallery, Santa Fe, NM. “Bones Come Home refers to a memory of sorts, a memory which has been formulated from the time I could perceive my world to my present day. This exhibit represents for me, and I feel Elemore has similar impressions, an intriguing sense of place—of the American South, and in particular our state of Louisiana.”
Elemore Morgan, Jr. was a professor at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, LA for 33 years. He currently exhibits with the Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans, LA. “I am pleased to have this opportunity to show my work in Lafayette for several reasons: One, because it’s my home territory and much of my painting has been produced in response to the natural environment and culture of this part of Louisiana. Two, I am pleased to be showing with Bryan Lafaye, who is an old friend and a very gifted artist and, like me, a native southerner who loves this complex, exasperating and wonderfully stimulating part of the USA. And three, showing in the Acadiana Center for the Arts is a special opportunity for me to show some multi-panel paintings, which require a gallery space such as that of the main gallery of the AcA.”
The opening reception for the exhibit will be held January 13, 2007 from 5pm to 8pm. Louisiana Folk Roots presents Jam des Amis led by John Buckelew in the Art House. Free Art Walk admission is generously sponsored by Acadiana Computer Systems, Inc., Voorhies & Labbé, Café des Amis, and à la Carte. Special thanks to our 2007 exhibition series sponsors: LCVC, DDA, Dr. F. Jay Culotta, and the Independent Weekly.
The exhibit can be viewed at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, 101 W. Vermilion St. in downtown Lafayette, on Tuesdays through Fridays from 10am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free to members, $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, $2 for those 17 and under and free to those 4 and under.
