UL School of Music to Host Guitar Competition - 03/16/2010
Lafayette, LA- The UL Lafayette School of Music performance competition series will feature the fifteenth annual Friends of Music Classical Guitar Competition on Saturday, March 27th at 3:00 p.m. in the Bayou Bijou auditorium in the student union. The concert is open to the public. The guitar department is one of the largest instrumental studios in the school of music. The anticipated annual competition is in its fifteenth year and generates excitement for the participants as well as provides high-level performances for the audience members.
Four finalists chosen from a preliminary competition will contend for prizes and recognition. “This competition serves to reward outstanding students for their hard work as well as to give them a sense of what a national competition is like", explains Dr. Jeffrey George, Professor of Guitar Studies. "Getting recognition in a performance competition is one of the primary ways that a guitarist can begin their career and open doors for a number of opportunities.” George adds, "Some international competitions offer prize money that goes into five figures and may also subsidize a monetary prize with instruments, recordings or tours." The Friends of Music competition is co-sponsored by Lafayette Music Co., Inc.
Admission is free. For more information call 482-5210
