Wayne “the Train” Hancock rolls into the Hub City early this week. Joining the revered singer songwriter will be Lafayette’s very own, the Lyin’ Shames. The Sidecar on Refinery Rd. in Freetown will host a night of classic country music on Tuesday night.
Downtown Alive returns this week with local R&B pop group Sydney and the Sams plus Mike Larson opening at Parc Sans Souci on Friday evening. Following DTA, Jourdan Thibodeaux et les Rôdailleurs play the Apothecary Shoppe’s High Notes series at Chez La Fête, while local punk favorites the Amazing Nuns and the Conrads team up for a night of original rock at the Hideaway.
If you’re looking to dance, Sunday’s your day to go out and cut a rug. The Holiday Playgirls will play the Sunday afternoon dance at Vermilionville, then Texas zydeco legend Step Rideau is set for Rock n’ Bowl’s Sunday fais do do, starting at 5:00. Cedric Watson and Renée Reed finish it out at the Hideaway later that evening.
Country, rock, R&B, pop, Cajun, and zydeco sounds are all included in this Lafayette Weekly Playlist. You’ll hear tracks from Québécoise roots singer Emilie Clepper, blues rockers North Mississippi Allstars, and country crooner Wayne Hancock, who are all making tour stops in town this week. All of that, plus brand new local music from Sydney and the Sams, the Amazing Nuns, and Cedric Watson and the late Courtney Granger from his posthumous release, Cajun and Creole Music of Louisiana.
